Cause and effect
1. Volcanic activity
Volcanoes create empty dust deposits, torrential rains and streams of dust. This can cause vibrations or ground upheaval which is the cause of landslides.
2. High rainfall
High rainfall is one of the causes of landslides. During a long dry season, the soil will dry out and form cracked cavities or pores. During the rainy season, rainwater will enter and seep into the cracked soil and fill the voids, causing soil shifts to occur. The changing soil causes soil erosion and then landslides.
3. Erosion
Erosion is soil erosion caused by runoff of surface water or rainwater, rivers or sea waves which erode the slopes of the land. The water that erodes these slopes eventually gets steeper and causes landslides. Cliffs that lack trees or do not have barriers will be more easily eroded and eroded so they are prone to landslides.
